Whiplash is often a common result of auto accidents... but auto accidents are not the only cause of whiplash. Collision sports can also cause a whiplash type of injuries. A simple definition of whiplash can be defined as when your head and neck are thrown or “snapped” back and forth very quickly, even at low speeds of only 5-8 miles per hour.
Your neck is jam-packed with nerves, glands, blood and lymph vessels, and 48 different joints, your brain stem, spinal cord, spinal column, muscles, ligaments, tendons, fluids, meninges and even more! Not to mention having to balance the weight of your head!
When your head is thrown back and forth, many of those structures suffer unexpected, undue strain and can often sprain the joints and strain the surrounding muscles, tendons and ligaments. This then creates an instability syndrome which if not handle and taken care of correctly and quickly will result in degenerative changes and pain in the years to come!
Car Accidents are nothing to play with as they cause hidden injuries which may not manifest for decades, often forgotten as the cause. The additional problem with that is that statistics have shown that the real damage to an accident usually is not seen for 10-15 years later, and if these accident victims had gotten corrective care after their accidents, their potential of developing greater problems and even degenerative arthritis would be significantly less!

After 25+ years in practice, I can tell you first hand that injuries to your neck not only cause a loss of the normal curve to your neck, which then causes an alteration to the normal biomechanics but they also cause the degenerative changes that create the pain and symptoms felt after most accidents. Eventually this will also alter the function of your mid-back and eventually your lower back further causing pain syndromes, as well as loss of range of motion, stiffness, muscle spasms and more pain!
